retirement
It started small. A little boutique in Leeds, two rails of clothing, and a big belief that people deserve beautiful, well-made clothes that actually fit their lives.
In 2009, Margaret and David Ellington opened the doors to their first shop in Headingley. There was always a pot of tea on the go, a friendly face ready to help, and a carefully chosen selection of pieces for real people, not just mannequins. Word spread quickly. Customers didn't just come back for the clothes. They came back for how the whole experience made them feel: seen, valued, and understood.
A shared vision, a growing family
From the very beginning, it was the two of them. Margaret with her eye for style and warmth for people, David with his quiet dedication and belief in doing things properly. Together they built something that was always about more than fashion. It was about community. Over the years the rails grew, the styles broadened, and Ellington became a destination for everyone — women, men, and the people who shop for them.
In 2017 they launched the Ellington website, so customers across Yorkshire and beyond could experience the same thoughtful, personal service from the comfort of home. The rails moved online. The warmth never did.
Sixteen years of you
What Margaret and David never could have predicted was you. The thousands of people who walked in as strangers and left as friends. Who told them about the outfit for the wedding, the jacket for the new job, the jumper bought just to feel good on an ordinary Tuesday. They remember so many of you by name. Those memories are ones they will carry with them always.
Margaret and David are retiring
After sixteen years of pouring their hearts into every piece, every customer, and every detail, the time has come for Margaret and David to rest. They are hanging up the rails, putting the kettle on one last time, and stepping into a very well-earned retirement together.
They couldn't leave without giving something back. As a final thank you, everything in the store is now 50% off, for a limited time while stocks last.
It has been the absolute privilege of their lives.
With so much love, Margaret & David Ellington
